Tadrart - Djanet

Tadrart lies south-east of Algeria, not far from Libya and Niger. The nearest town is Djanet. It is a place that is trying to open up to tourism. The variety of sites and landscapes is surprising because all kinds of desert forms come together to the delight of the traveler and photographer: Canyons, arches, sandstone statues carved by erosion due to temperature differences, marry dunes yellow, ocher, orange or red.
These regions were densely populated in the Neolithic, and the remains of a nearby civilization are numerous: prints, paintings and frescoes rock allow the traveler to dream of a fertile and green Sahara. These remains are witness to an art older than 10,000 years and shows that the Sahara was home to a great diversity of cultures.
What surprised me most is to see the greenery throughout the Oued In Djaren and even high on the dunes: this is due to a phenomenon he seems pretty uncommon, rains summer particularly abundant this year, and the fact that the vegetation is ready to start as soon as the humidity conditions are right, to the delight of the animals that inhabit the desert. I had no idea that such large amounts of water can gully floors and even cause deadly floods as Djanet.
