Hoggar is a mountain range north of Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria. This massive home to Mount Tahats, the highest point (2918m) of Algeria. Tassili Hoggar is itself located about 200km south of Tamanrasset. The Tassili is a deeply eroded sandstone plateau which built large sandstone cathedrals invaded by dunes, rocky peaks up like menhirs or giant mushrooms. Tassili Hoggar is also very rich engravings, paintings and ancient scriptures.
This trip was my first real encounter with the Great Sahara; as it is obviously very difficult to find one, I went with the agency Nomad Adventure for shared crossings between 4x4 and hiking week, accompanied by a local Tuareg guide.
The tour began with a quick hook in the stony desert Hoggar mountains, more precisely in Atakor for a night at the shelter Assekrem, near the Hermitage of Father de Foucauld. The sunrise and sunset on the volcanic peaks are époustoufflants ...
After a long drive south, we finally arrived at the gates of Tassili Hoggar for departure on foot to the site Tinlenfaza mingling rocks smoothed by erosion and sand shapes. The next day, new start 'walk Youf Ahakit and slender needles into the sky, then crossing by 4x4 part of Oued Tin Tarabine rich engravings to the site Tahaggart. This site is characterized by its sharp peaks planted in the sand that are adorned with flamboyant colors at dawn and dusk, fantastic ...
The next day was spent on a trip to Tagrera the middle of "mushrooms" of sandstone, then a hike brought us to the fortress Tin Akacheker under a heat lead, no shadow ... The light at the end of day on the site, with a cloudy sky was fabulous; drawings of the wind in the dunes offering endless subject for the photographer! After a quick stop at El Ghessour, we took the road to Tamanrasset, meeting occasionally Tuareg nomad camps. One last evening allowed us to visit the fort of Tamanrasset and Charles de Foucauld just before flying back.

This first Saharan adventure was unforgettable by the beautiful scenery and the warmth of the Tuareg people; bivouacs in the middle of nowhere will long remain in my memory! The call of the desert is already resentir ...
